About Ipe Adirondack Chairs and Ipe Wood
Ipe is an extremely dense and heavy hardwood often called "Brazilian Walnut". It is considered to be the most beautiful and resilient natural wood that can be used to make outdoor furniture. It is nearly 400% harder than teak and will stand up to the harshest elements better than any other wood. For use in rain, snow, sun or freezing temperatures, there is no better choice than Ipe. Ipe products are by design and nature "commercial grade". Adirondack Chairs made of Ipe are naturally resistant to insects, moisture and fire (Ipe is fire rated class A by the NFPA or class 1 by the UBC). This is the same classification as both steel and concrete. Ipe does not require any maintenance. It will grey naturally over time but should never warp, crack, split or peel. Charleston Chair offers Ipe Furniture both natural as well as oiled. We recommend the oiled finish for both beauty and maintenance. You can expect your Ipe Adirondack Chair to look just as great in 25 years as it does today. An American Made Ipe Adirondack Chair from Charleston Chair is as close as outdoor chairs come to Heirloom Quality!
